Main Street Arts and Crafts Festival Committee:
Welcomes Volunteers for the 48th Season
New members to the area who may be looking for an interesting project in 2025 might want to consider belonging to the Arts and Crafts Festival committee. This esteemed festival not only showcases exceptional hand-crafted items and musical talent but brings people together for summer time fun!
It might be helpful to know more about the Main Street Arts and Crafts festival. This three day event is held every year on the last weekend of June-this year the 27th, 28th and 29th. The festival has been a part of summer activities in Hot Springs since the United States Bicentennial year of 1976. Art and Beulah Donnell, local business owners, wanted to create an event that would showcase the work of local and regional artisans as well as augment the celebration for the bicentennial. Art and Beulah successfully supervised each year’s festival until the early 2000’s.
Centennial Park, downtown Hot Springs, was chosen as the perfect site for the event because it was a long and narrow expanse of land similar to a city street (hence the name “Main Street”). Historically, the festival was often scheduled to coincide with the Miss South Dakota Pageant which was held in Hot Springs for over fifty years. A local group, the Hot Springs Area Arts Council, which has since disbanded, helped sponsor the event. In the early years, only local artisans were involved.
Over the years, the festival has grown to include artisans and visitors from several states. It is one of the featured summer activities listed in the South Dakota Visitors Guide and the “South Dakota” magazine. Many local organizations as well as individuals have generously and perpetually contributed to the success of the event. The festival features popular live entertainment from across the state along with talented artist vendor booths and an array of tantalizing food booths.
Individuals may want to volunteer their time for specific festival jobs, if monthly planning meetings do not fit into their schedule. If interested, please call (605.745.5069)
If you would like to meet new people, make new friends and learn new things, this volunteer opportunity is for you! Strongly consider sharing your talents and time to promote the Annual Main Street Arts and Crafts Festival.
